Fly & Ride has become extremely popular the past several years. Instead of taking a day or several days to get to you destination and back you can simply ship your bike and its waiting for you upon your arrival. You arrive rested and ready to enjoy the event.
"I would like to ship my motorcycle, but how?"
To successfully ship your motorcycle, you need to start with a realistic timeline. Begin looking for a motorcycle transporter at least a month in advance and for rallies several months in advance. The shipper will likely be caring several motorcycles to rallies and have a pre-set schedule of arrival and departure. All legal motorcycle carriers are required to be registered with the Department of Transportation. A carrier's authority can be verified by checking their DOT or MC numbers at www.safersys.org. In addition to checking your motorcycle transporter's registration, verify that they are legally allowed to ship motor vehicles.
All motorcycle transporters should carry a minimum amount of insurance coverage. You should ask your carrier for a copy of their certificate of insurance. You want to be sure your chosen carrier is experienced in shipping motorcycles. The best way to check a carrier's experience is to ask for customer references. Before your motorcycle carrier arrives for pick up, you should prepare your motorcycle for transport. The carrier is not your mechanic, charge the battery, inflate the tires and clean the bike. You may want to take pictures of your motorcycle from all angles and date all your records. Keep this info with the paperwork you get from your carrier. Unless you are shipping your motorcycle as freight, you will not need to drain your gas tank or remove the battery. Have a wonderful vacation your bikes in good hands.
