       New Ordinances --- Posted Wednesday, September 24, 2008
The Myrtle Beach City Council approved the following ordinances at its regular meeting on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. Some amend existing ordinances, while others are entirely new. Three are effective immediately, including the Noise Ordinance
The remaining 12 ordinances take effect Sunday, December 21, 2008, which is 90 days from adoption.

                    FACTS & INFO REGARDING THE 2009 EVENTS

Have any of the rallies been cancelled? -- NO – At present Horry County has not made a ruling on issuing permits for vendors for any bike events in 2009. People are still going to come with or without the vendors in the county. People own time shares, homes, condos in the Grand Strand and bought these places just for these events.   People take vacations every year just to be at and enjoy the area and the Bike Weeks.
What have the City of Myrtle Beach and other local governments done in regards to the rallies?   There are three (3) government bodies in the Grand Strand that can affect vending permits and impose local ordnances, Horry County, City of Myrtle Beach and the City of North Myrtle Beach.   The City of Myrtle Beach raised taxes with the money earmarked to study and promote ways to discourage the Rallies.     As of August 11, 2008, Horry County and the City of North Myrtle Beach have not made any changes to the rallies.

Will Law Enforcement be increased??    Yes I think it will, with all the complaining form the anti-rally group you can bet Law Enforcement is going to be strongly scrutinized. Law enforcement will be strictly enforcing the laws, especially noise ordinances during the Rallies.

In recent surveys from the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, the community overwhelming supports the Fall Rally and Bike Week 2009. Over 60 percent of people said the community should work with the bikers.   The community especially the biker friendly businesses, will welcome you with open arms when you are in town this Fall Rally and Bike Week 2009.

If North Myrtle Beach and Horry County vote to limit or eliminate the vendor permits, this could have a grave impact on all Bike Weeks. The Sun News is finally posting these events separately on the front page of their website. www.myrtlebeachonline.com
